Caroline Luxury Apartments is a 607,153 SF, seven-story apartment tower located near The Citadel. The project is directly behind the Charleston Metro Police Department headquarters and shares a garage with them. The two-building project contains 237 residential units and a 264,000 SF, 1,005-space precast parking garage. As The Caroline is located on the Charleston peninsula, the foundation system is extremely important. The system consists of 1,092 precast driven piles integrated into a series of grade beams and pile caps. Due to the project’s location on a brownfield site, the slab on grade system was designed to be fully supported by the pile caps and grade beams. This allows the soil beneath the building to lower in elevation without affecting any structural or architectural components.
