University Health Women's & Children's Hospital features a 12-story, 697,000 square-foot tower and podium and includes a 400,000 square-foot garage.
To expand the services of this flagship hospital, JE Dunn and Joeris General Contractors were hired to solve the aged programmatic guidelines and present new recommendations for scope, options, design, and future options that would increase hospital capacity and create operating efficiencies. This was successfully done with architects Marmon Mok and ZGF. Our team started the preconstruction and design phase with scope pieces that were only concepts and put accurate dollar value around them in partnership with the design team to track and hit budgets without any surprises in cost once final budgets and decisions were made by University Health.
Offsite prefabrication was a critical component of the plan to deliver a high quality, efficient project, while minimizing onsite disruptions on a busy campus. Items planned for offsite prefabrication include exterior skin, corridor MEP racks, vertical shaft MEP racks, patient room overhead MEP racks, branch electrical rooms and electrical conduit racks.
Leveraging Virtual Design & Construction tools to better visualize countless aspects of the project further contributed to the accuracy and quality of installations, meeting critical milestones, and tying the 3D model to the project schedule to illustrate logistics and sequencing constraints.
Recently the project celebrated the public open house of the hospital as it prepares to open at the end of summer 2023.
