Originally built in 1988 and located on 60-acres in southwest Travis County, James Bowie High School serves over 2,900 students and is the largest comprehensive high school in the district. JE Dunn was entrusted with the modernization of the existing facility to a state-of-the-art campus. The main goal for this project was to complete a portion of the project every summer and have those facilities operational for the upcoming school year.
Completed in four phases, the additions and renovation included a new and improved parking garage with roof-top tennis courts, a marching band practice lot as well as new athletics, fine arts, career tech, and education facilities. Outside of the contractual project, JE Dunn also volunteered to rebuild the softball batting cages, completed in early 2020.
The athletics building is currently being submitted for LEED Silver certification. The fine arts building is being submitted for Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) three-star certification.
