Hospitals are settings where busyness and bustle are commonplace – and for good reason. For teams working on renovations and expansions of existing facilities, it is important to both patients receiving care and staff that day-to-day operations can flow with few interruptions. When construction must take place, it can be an impediment for all involved and present numerous hurdles for project teams. Enter temporary containment innovations.
Temporary containment strategies are imperative to safe, clean environments where infection control is a daily concern. Recent advancements such as modular temporary wall systems are changing the game of containment when it comes to active job sites embedded in places like hospitals and similar facilities.
Pre-manufactured panels can now be delivered to the jobsite ready for installation, replacing the use of single-use barriers. The former method of building wood framing with drywall and disposable plastic tents has been replaced with these durable and reusable panels which are not only more efficient to install but are also easier to disinfect, have airtight seals between panels for improved containment of dust, debris and noise, and have an overall cleaner look.
When it comes to maintaining air quality and reducing disruption, mobile containment has been a leading component in refining how ongoing construction is handled, from innovations that include more powerful HEPA filtration fans, to internal ladders and platforms for workers to allow easier access to elevated work areas.
“Mobile containment can decrease interruptions to busy hospitals and speed up construction or maintenance work,” says JE Dunn Senior Superintendent, Clyde Simpson.
As with any project, it’s not just the physical methods used that contribute to a successful result but also the level of collaboration, communication and planning involved leading up to and throughout the project. Educating teams on why containment is important and how to mitigate risk are intertwined in a job well done and happy client.
