The Benbrook Municipal Complex is a 33,500 SF, 2-story building that will house both the City Hall and Police Department on a 4-acre site in downtown Benbrook. The City Hall portion of the building features the Council Chamber, a community room that will serve as the senior center and indoor venue, a municipal court, judge’s chambers and office space for all city hall services.
The Police Department portion features men’s and women’s locker room that can be adjusted based on personnel, a SWAT locker room, a reinforced area for a lab, ammunition storage, property/evidence/narcotics processing and storage, a dispatch area with TC-911 systems, and offices for police personnel. There is also a detention area with a single point access control system for securing detainees and holding cells for six individuals. The sallyport is also a ICC500 rated storm shelter.
The project includes the demolition of an existing senior center and working with City Hall & Police Department to maintain each of their existing facilities while the new complex is constructed on the same site. Once the new complex is completed, the existing City Hall & Police Department will be demolished. Site improvements include secure and covered parking for police and SWAT vehicles, an unconditioned storage building, a 24-hour standby generator to power the entire building, and a civic lawn/event space that features a splashpad and pergola.
