JE Dunn completed work with the Bonner Springs – Edwardsville School District to perform improvements to all school sites. To procure and implement $35M worth of improvements, the construction and design teams broke the program into two separate phases. This approach allowed JE Dunn to “go to” the market quicker and stretch the benefit of every dollar in the bond program. A phased construction approach was implemented at all facilities to allow for swing-spaces so construction could be performed year round avoiding expensive mobilization costs and the hectic 12-week summer completion schedule.
BRAVES INNOVATION CENTER (B-TEC)
The $7.1M Braves Technology Education Center (B-TEC) housed wood/metal/robotics shops, along with 10 new classrooms to service their business, journalism and maker space needs. The metal shop is equipped with seven welding booths, as well as a 5’x5’ plasma cutting table. The wood shop houses a full size painting booth equipped with ventilation systems and
dust collection system throughout the entire shop to ensure a clean and safe working environment. B-TEC also houses their mechanics program, which includes large overhead doors allowing cars to be pulled into the space where students are able to learn about building and repairing vehicles. After completion, the existing spaces in the high school were transitioned to the
B-TEC.
