For more than 25 years, JE Dunn Construction has partnered with Blue Springs R-IV School District to deliver facilities that support student safety, evolving enrollment needs, and modern learning experiences. 

A Partnership Built Over Multiple Bond Programs

Across more than 20 projects and multiple voter-approved bond programs, JE Dunn has completed elementary school improvements, high school additions and renovations, secure-entry and building-system upgrades, storm shelters, and the Blue Springs High School Freshman Center. This work has helped the district enhance existing campuses while maintaining continuity for students, staff, and the broader school community. 

The partnership continues with the new Career Innovation Center, a destination for profession-based learning that will expand opportunities for students to explore college and career pathways. Consistent project teams, transparent communication, and thoughtful coordination in active school environments have helped the district advance long-term facility goals while continuing to serve students throughout construction. 

Bond Program Timeline

• 2005-2012: Elementary-school upgrades, secure entries, building systems, gymnasium/FEMA shelter work 

• 2018: South High School addition and Blue Springs High School renovation/addition 

• 2021: Blue Springs High School Freshman Center

Project Spotlight: Career Innovation Center

The 97,000-square-foot Career Innovation Center will give Blue Springs students immersive, profession-based learning experiences that connect classroom instruction with college, career, and workforce opportunities. 

Designed to support a broad range of pathways — including aviation, business, health sciences, gaming and technology, education, and hospitality and tourism — the two-story facility will provide flexible, hands-on environments where students can explore future careers before graduation.

Specialized spaces include culinary and hospitality learning environments, a commercial kitchen and bakery, a mock restaurant and coffee shop, an esports arena, healthcare and veterinary technician training areas, video-game design spaces, a music technician and repair clinic, an auxiliary gymnasium, and outdoor gathering areas. The center also includes space for districtwide professional development and an ICC 500-compliant high-wind shelter.
