Kansas City Residential Building Trends

Look no further than downtown Kansas City for illustrations of some of the trends in luxury multifamily residential building. At JE Dunn, we have partnered with Cordish Companies to provide new luxury housing options and opportunities in Kansas City’s downtown district.

It’s a tall order – literally. A surge in demand for high-rise residential housing continues to sweep the market and Kansas City is no exception. JE Dunn has been on the scene and is well-versed on apartment trends, having partnered with Cordish Companies, a global leader in commercial real estate and a top developer of high-rise residential properties in urban centers nationwide.

“Younger generations are less likely to pursue home ownership, due to both the state of the market and lifestyle considerations,” says JE Dunn Vice President, Jim Coulter. “High interest rates, large down payments, low inventory and high demand have made owning a traditional single-family house out of reach for many.”

Together with Cordish Companies, JE Dunn is in the mix building new luxury housing in downtown Kansas City. While labor shortages, supply issues and an influx in material costs have put a damper on the construction industry, an overarching trend of increased demand for residential complexes cannot be denied as 2022 saw new apartment construction in the U.S. reaching a 50-year high.

Read more detail in the Kansas City Business Journal on how JE Dunn is working to meet market needs while navigating the complexity of building luxury housing within a small urban footprint.
