Supporting inclusion and engagement is what it has always been about. More than that, it has included fostering a culture of networking, professional development, mentoring, sponsorship and leadership opportunities, all with a focus on maximizing engagement at JE Dunn. This is the focus of BUiLD (Blacks United in Learning and Development), JE Dunn’s Black and African American Employee Resource Group.
“BUiLD has been a dedicated group that has provided a platform for our Black employees and allies to connect, share experiences and support one another, ultimately promoting a more inclusive workplace,” says Lynnsee Boyse, senior project manager and national co-chair of BUiLD.
Since its inception, BUiLD has gained notable momentum and energy that Boysee says is producing visible benefits in the impact it has had on employees from learning and development, recruiting, networking and overall sense of belonging perspective. “By creating an inclusive environment, [JE Dunn] is able to tap into the unique perspectives and talents of our diverse employees,” Boysee says.
From volunteer events to guest speakers, jobsite and industry tours, financial education, health and wellness events and more, BUiLD has grown to host a variety of events for JE Dunn employees everywhere that serve them in a number of ways. The results have proven fruitful in helping to support recruitment, retention and development of existing employees.
“BUiLD is a very special group of employees that are united with common goals, backgrounds and interests through increased company engagement,” says Marcus Walker, BUiLD national co-chair and engineering services manager at JE Dunn. “BUiLD has created a name for itself through its unmatched energy, sense of belonging and authentic environment. We have seen a tremendous growth in this group when it comes to building relationships internally and externally, personal and professional development and community involvement.”
