JE Dunn's first project with Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium was to transform the old Red Barn Petting Zoo portion into a 12,600 SF plaza including concession buildings, public restrooms, an outdoor picnic pavilion, a mother's area, and enough area outdoors for 500 people to enjoy a break throughout the day. The plaza is named Glacier Bay Landing.
JE Dunn recently completed another multi-phase project including a new events center, sting ray beach and primate holding area, as well as remodel/reconfiguration of aviary and flamingo attractions. Some unique aspects of this project include working in operating animal attraction facilities, working with multiple architects to coordinate design of the different facilities, close coordination with several other projects and another contractor while working simultaneously at the zoo. JE Dunn has also been reconstructing the aviary boardwalk/entrances and addition of flamingo attraction consisting of 400 linear feet of elevated structural boardwalk.
