With an employee count well into the thousands across 18 states and 26 offices – some located in regions with a heavy Hispanic population – there was a need and place for a Hispanic ERG (Employee Resource Group).
An ever-growing number of Hispanic and Latin-American employees to JE Dunn’s ranks has highlighted the benefits of having a Hispanic ERG at JE Dunn.
“Exploring this ERG has been fully supported because [JE Dunn] understands its importance and what it means to those employees within the organization. It matters to be inclusive and create a sense of belonging,” says National Safety Director and Hispanic ERG Co-Chair, James Robles.
Serving alongside Robles as co-chair is Henry Volante, equipment operations director at JE Dunn. “One of the most exciting aspects of our Hispanic ERG is the chance to grow and enhance leadership skills at every level,” says Volante. “I enjoy connecting with other Hispanic leaders within the company. It’s important to celebrate the diversity of our employees and we can all learn from each other in a supportive environment.”
Robles notes the Hispanic ERG can serve more than just Hispanic and Latino employees but rather any employee interested and willing to learn more, with opportunities to connect with Hispanic and Latino employees that come from a different background.
“[For those] that are not Hispanic and want to join, it’s a great opportunity to learn about another culture, especially if it’s one that already interests you,” says Robles.
“As far as me taking on a national co-chair along with Henry, I take it as a source of pride but also as my duty as someone in leadership to use my position to show others that they can be in a similar position with enough effort and support, by adding value to the organization,” he says.
