Ahead of schedule, under budget and fewer disruptions to daily business. This is what every client and project team wants and strives for, but in the world of healthcare that can be particularly challenging, especially when the client sets a goal of 60% prefabrication of a project.
During construction of the Orthopedic and Spine Specialty Unit at HCA’s Overland Park Regional Medical Center, JE Dunn set out to do just that, carefully considering how to employ innovative methods and refine early collaboration among design and trade partners to meet their goals. The combined efforts resulted in a more than 22% reduction in the schedule and quicker delivery. JE Dunn shifted as much work as possible offsite for premanufacturing that, while initially producing a 15% cost premium, was offset and eclipsed by the hospital’s ability to generate additional revenue, opening doors to patients for treatment more than two months ahead of schedule.
“To meet the client’s aggressive prefabrication goals, we really pushed the limits and took a prefabrication-first mindset,” says Brady Myers, health care project manager with JE Dunn. “Not only was this crucial to the efficient installation of these premanufactured components, but it also pushed us to think outside of the norm when it came to which parts we could prefabricate and how we could leverage it in new ways.”
The widespread benefits of JE Dunn’s approach and emphasis on prefabrication don’t just stop there. Read more below about the advantages of prefabrication in the Kansas City Business Journal.
