JE Dunn completed its third Kindred rehabilitation hospital between Mercy Medical Center and Kindred Healthcare. The new hospital provides care for patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and amputation.
The two-story, 53,000 SF facility features 40 patient beds, along with gymnasiums outfitted for high-tech therapy devices and treatments, a dedicated brain injury unit complete with monitored rooms, specialized beds and patient lifting equipment: and separate therapy and dining spaces.
Since the building is located on an undocumented fill site, JE Dunn partnered early with Kindred and the design team to find the most economical and expeditious foundation system. The solution allowed the facility to be constructed on budget in 11.5 months, which was crucial for Mercy to open before another competitor in the market.
