When working in an active semiconductor manufacturing facility, eliminating impacts to daily operations is imperative. JE Dunn implemented the “No-Impact Program” on Project Roadrunner which proved highly impactful. Key Components of this Program are highlighted below.
A specialized team was formed with the sole responsibility of ensuring that the existing operating manufacturing systems were not damaged or disrupted in any manner throughout the course of construction. The team included seven key trade partners, each providing one full-time person to support the program. Their primary duty was to install metal strut barriers to protect sensitive systems and devices. The team’s extensive experience with operating systems in the south end of the campus and their strong relationships with the System Owners was instrumental in coordinating work and ensuring timely success.
The No-Impact team worked closely with JE Dunn superintendents and trade partner forepersons to orchestrate field walks with Owner’s System Owners and additional room/area stakeholders. The importance of this is these Owner’s personnel know their systems very well and support us in understanding exactly what needs to be protected. Special colored physical tape was used to highlight any system that supported multiple manufacturing tools. Additional responsibilities were to support System Owner coordination with MEP system tie-ins and shutdowns on behalf of the JE Dunn superintendents.
The No-Impact Program was successfully implemented throughout the construction of the two cleanroom spaces, logging over 2 million craft hours and ensuring zero impacts on the owner’s operations. This meticulous approach not only safeguarded the sensitive systems and environments but also set a benchmark for future projects on the campus. In fact, it has been adopted by the Owner as a Best-Known Method (BKM) for the entire campus, setting a new standard for future projects.
“The people are extremely strong resources within the team that make collaboration a very easy and rewarding process.\”
