XWA – Williston Basin International Airport New Terminal

Project Highlights

The XWA – Williston Basin International Airport New Terminal is a new 110,000 SF, two-level airport passenger facility. The project included an entry hall with passenger counters, TSA offices, security checkpoint, baggage conveyors, restrooms, a restaurant with a full kitchen and bar, an enclosed tug tunnel, and boarding bridges.

JE Dunn was brought on board early in the design phase. We provided preconstruction to the owner, assisting with budgeting and constructability reviews. Based on the first set of drawings, the project was determined to be over budget and oversized for the owner’s needs. We identified $10M in cost reduction ideas, with $7M accepted by the owner.

During the precon process, we created an early foundations bid package to start construction before winter so the project could remain on schedule while the design team finished their construction documents. The result saved six months on the project schedule and mitigated the potential risk of lost time on the project during the redesign.
