JE Dunn has completed four phases of work at the Leavenworth Detention Center, totaling 205,772 square feet of housing and support services, and 1,052 beds. Phase 1 included a new 73,200-square-foot, 256-bed complex, which consisted of a 45,700-square-foot male housing unit, a 7,500-square-foot female housing unit and an administration building.
Phase 2 added 156 beds and additional storage to the facility. It also included extensive site work that upgraded the existing security fencing and created a new perimeter patrol road.
Phase 3 was comprised of a 45,000-square-foot expansion including a 320-bed men’s inmate housing unit with four day-rooms, two security control centers, 24 ten-man cells, a barber shop, medical offices and patient rooms, a pharmacy, laundry room, recreational yards, and a new lobby. Renovation consisted of a new inmate visitor center and kitchen renovation. The entire security system was replaced and upgraded with a modern touchscreen system. Phase 4 consisted of a new 54,415-square-foot, two-story detention center that added 320 beds, and a commissary/warehouse area.
