Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium selected JE Dunn to complete the Glacier Bay Landing project, a two-acre redevelopment project near the north entrance of the zoo. The goal of the project was to transform the old Red Barn Petting Zoo portion into a 12,600 SF plaza including concession buildings, public restrooms, an open-air events pavilion, a mother's area, and shaded space for visitors to enjoy a break throughout the day.
In addition to this attraction area, JE Dunn completed a multi-phase project including a new events center, sting ray beach and primate holding area, as well as the remodel/reconfiguration of aviary and flamingo attractions. Unique aspects of this project included working in operating animal attraction facilities, working with multiple architects to coordinate the design of the different facilities, close coordination with several other projects and working simultaneously with another contractor at the zoo.
