Confidential Data Center Substation

Project Highlights

The initial substation included two 161kV circuits feeding a motor operated air break (MOAB) switch mounted on A-frame dead-end structures. Power is distributed through 2000A, 170kV high-voltage circuit breakers to two owner-furnished 150MVA, 161/24.9kV Siemens transformers. From there, overhead distribution supplies four 3000A MDC buildings, each equipped with four 1200A, 15kV feeder breakers connected to an outdoor control enclosure with SEL protection relays for the substation equipment. This includes zone protection controls and integration with OPPD.

The second substation followed the same design, with two 161kV circuits feeding the MOAB switch and 2000A, 170kV breakers. This substation powers two owner-furnished 120MVA, 161/13.8kV Siemens transformers, with distribution again routed to four MDC buildings through the same feeder and relay configuration.

The third and fourth substations mirror this setup, each fed by two 161kV circuits and 2000A, 138kV breakers. Both utilize two owner-furnished 120MVA, 161/13.8kV Siemens transformers and distribute power overhead to four 3000A MDC buildings with identical feeder breaker and SEL Relay arrangements.

JE Dunn is currently in the preconstruction phase for a fifth substation at this data center campus. This project includes: two 161kV circuits feeding group operated air break (MOAB) switch mounted on A-frame dead-end structures. 2000A 161kV high voltage circuit breakers feeding owner furnished 143MVA, 161/13.8kV Siemens transformers. Overhead distribution to (10) individually mounted 3000A, 15kV medium voltage circuit breakers connected to an outdoor control enclosure with SEL Relays (TiDL).
