City of Port Wentworth

Fire Station

Project Highlights

Located off Hwy 30 and the first project in Anchor Park, this new four-bay, 18,000-square-foot fire station is part of a larger plan for growth and development in the City of Port Wentworth. The fire station contains a training classroom that will also serve as the city’s emergency operations center. In the event of a hurricane or intense storms this building will function as a meeting location for city staff and the community to shelter with a full-sized 800 AMP, 500 KW generator providing full power to the entire building.

The facility accommodates administrative spaces for daytime work, recreational and living facilities for on-call crew members and their gear, the ability to house multiple fire apparatuses and emergency equipment, and the ability to function as an Emergency Operations Center. Facility spaces include living quarters for firefighters (male and female), a full kitchen for meal preparation, a full fitness center, office spaces, and serves as the cities Fire Station Headquarters. These spaces include Fire Chiefs office, Captains office, 5 additional support offices, separate administrative spaces, recreation room, training room, records storage, men’s and women’s locker room and restrooms, 5 total bunk rooms, full-service laundry room, fire equipment storage, and breakroom along with an outdoor covered grilling area.

Going Beyond the Contract to Deliver Success

During construction, JE Dunn assisted the city with coordinating all the new wet and dry utilities required to service this new development. This area of the City of Port Wentworth was not developed and required the installation of water, sewer, and electrical service. While this scope was not in our contract, we jumped in and led the coordination for this installation in time for project completion as these systems were necessary for building services and final certificate of occupancy.

We also assisted with the planning and installation of GADOT deceleration and acceleration along highway 30. Again, this scope was not in our contract but was critical for the access and opening to the new fire department HQ.

Helping our clients solve challenges is what our teams do best, and we achieved successful on-time completion of this new facility for the City of Port Wentworth.
