As we conclude Military Appreciation Month, we reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of those in and out of the military. At JE Dunn Construction, we recognize the importance of military professionals to our country and express our deep gratitude to those who are serving and have served. JE Dunn proudly employs over 150 veterans across the nation, including 8 on our Phoenix office team.
Valuing Our Veterans
Veterans bring a wealth of experience, discipline, and dedication to our team. Their unique perspectives and skills enrich our company culture and drive our success. To honor and support our veteran employees, JE Dunn is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for veterans and allies. In 2023, we launched a new employee resource group, VALOR – Veteran Assistance through Leadership Outreach & Resources.
VALOR aims to empower employees to thrive personally and professionally through networking, peer-to-peer mentorship, and advocacy. The group’s goals include:
- Community engagement and connection: Organizing events and fostering connections among veteran employees.
- Camaraderie and relationship building: Creating spaces to share stories and the impact of service.
- Resource guidance and support: Serving as a hub for information and assistance related to veterans’ needs, interests, and resources.
Building to Honor Military Professionals
JE Dunn is dedicated to projects that honor military professionals and veterans, recognizing the importance of their service and sacrifices. Having completed or have in progress over two dozen military-focused projects, our commitment to these projects is a testament to our respect for the military community. Among our notable projects are the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen in Scottsdale, Arizona and the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel Restoration in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Locally, in the Southwest region, our team completed the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen in 2023. This granite monument and park area, located in Scottsdale City Hall’s Memorial Lawn, honors 66 United States military service members from the Scottsdale area, including nearby Native American communities, who served with distinction and made the ultimate sacrifice over the last 100 years.
Nationally, one of our most notable historic preservation projects is underway at the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel. Recognized as the most visited man-made tourist attraction in the state of Colorado, the USAFA Chapel is a place of both honor and history. Since 2019, the JE Dunn project team has been working on its restoration and our personnel have experienced undertakings that will likely only come around once in their respective careers. Built in 1963, this restoration project involves a comprehensive refurbishment of the Chapel. This meticulous process includes the careful removal and restoration of original elements such as the organs, pews, and stained-glass windows, ensuring that the historical integrity and beauty of the Chapel are preserved for future generations.
Community Commitment
JE Dunn’s commitment to veterans extends beyond our construction projects. In support of Military Appreciation Month and during the 2024 National Volunteer Week, our Phoenix office assembled 100 care packages for Packages from Home. Founded in 2004, Packages from Home sends care packages to U.S. military service members stationed or deployed worldwide. JE Dunn’s generosity also resulted in a $3,500 donation to support the organization’s continued efforts. Each package supports up to five soldiers, benefiting 500 soldiers in total.
Additionally, building such iconic federal projects allows for unique opportunities to partner with and educate the community. For example, JE Dunn recently welcomed two classes from the Douglas County School District Legacy Campus to tour the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel Historic Restoration project. Students learned about the history and significance of the project from the larger chapel team, including JE Dunn, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), and AECOM. We understand these types of projects are not just buildings; they are connectors that touch the hearts of many and create lasting legacies. This is why we love being a community builder.
JE Dunn is proud to celebrate Military Appreciation Month and honor the contributions of active military professionals and veterans as part of our company values. Our commitment to veterans is a cornerstone of our culture, exemplified by our projects, employee resource groups, and community engagement efforts. By continuing to support and recognize military professionals, we uphold our dedication to building a better future for all.
From our JE Dunn team – Thank you, miliary professionals!
