Confidential Data Center Substation

Project Highlights

Construction on the first and second substation for the client’s data center campus. Each substation is supplied by two 138kV circuits feeding motor-operated air break (MOAB) switches mounted on H-frame dead-end structures. Power flows through two 2000A high-voltage circuit breakers into a pair of 72.3/96/120 MVA Hitachi transformers, stepping down from 138kV to 34.5kV. From the transformers, underground duct banks deliver power to two 2000A Siemens main switchgears (MSGs), which provide distribution via two 1200A feeders to the data center buildings, as well as controls for substation relaying and communications.

On the first substation, both Siemens switchgears involved extensive onsite retrofitting process to update to newest iteration of design, while on the second only one needed it.
