As construction manager, our team delivered a comprehensive renovation of the Management Education Center, transforming two existing campus buildings into a unified, modern hub for business and management education at Minneapolis Community & Technical College. The project supports a unique academic partnership with Metropolitan State University, creating a centralized destination where associate, bachelor’s, and graduate‑level programs can thrive within an active urban campus environment.
The scope required careful planning and execution to modernize both the historic Old Harmon building and the adjacent New Harmon facility while maintaining campus operations. Our team led a highly coordinated renovation effort that introduced new Hi‑Flex classrooms, computer labs, faculty offices, student collaboration areas, and a fourth‑floor entrepreneurship center—each constructed to support flexible, technology‑enabled, team‑based learning.
Infrastructure improvements were central to the project’s success. We managed extensive upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, roof replacements and repairs, building envelope improvements, and accessibility enhancements. Throughout construction, special attention was given to integrating modern systems within existing structures, including preservation‑minded work such as historic storm window replacement and the exposure of original structural elements that now serve as defining architectural features.
Delivering the project required close collaboration with the college, design team, trade partners, and campus stakeholders. Phased construction, detailed logistics planning, and continuous communication allowed work to progress efficiently while minimizing disruption to students, faculty, and staff. This proactive approach ensured safety, quality, and schedule control across a complex renovation footprint.
Completed in 2024, the Management Education Center provides a cohesive, student‑focused environment that brings academic programs, faculty, and support services together under one roof. The project’s successful delivery and collaborative execution were recognized with inclusion in Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects of 2024, highlighting the teamwork and craftsmanship behind this transformative campus investment.
