To serve a growing population, Williamson Health recently completed a historic modernization and expansion of its flagship facility, Williamson Medical Center, in Franklin, Tennessee. The $136M, 215,000-square-foot project epitomized the unique challenges and risks associated with this type of complex, multifaceted investment.
Featuring an emergency department addition and renovation, plus a new six-story horizontal expansion and three-story vertical expansion to the existing tower, the project delivered larger patient rooms, a state-of-the-art cardiac center with cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, and more space to care for emergency, behavioral health, labor and delivery, pediatrics, critical and intensive care patients. The team leveraged lean management, innovation and a unique approach to building a high-performing team to successfully address multiple complexities – such as a tight schedule, working above and adjacent to countless areas throughout the hospital, and challenging architectural and construction constraints – and ultimately, deliver a transformational project benefitting Williamson Health’s patients, staff and the community.
