This new 40,000 square foot facility manufactures Kemin’s Proteus portfolio of moisture-retaining protein ingredients, which enhance meat and poultry. JE Dunn worked closely with Kemin and the design team to ensure the facility meets USDA standards for food-grade protein ingredient processing. The facility receives raw feedstock in frozen and fresh forms, processes the product into liquid, and utilizes a spray drying system to convert it into a finished protein powder. There are several process areas within the facility, with an important separation between raw and cooked products. Areas include grinding, liquid processing, drying, and packaging. The design and construction of the facility incorporate the ability for future expansion.
JE Dunn was responsible for site development, the building envelope, and all mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems that support the operation of the production line. Our team coordinated across all trade partners on the project, including Kemin's vendors, to deliver the most cost-effective project with the earliest time to market possible.
Outside the building, there is a 100,000-gallon storage tank for fire sprinkler water and a wastewater treatment facility that treats process water before it re-enters the municipal water system.
