Kansas City Zoo Elephant Exhibit

Project Highlights

The Kansas City Zoo Elephant Exhibit project provided necessary upgrades for the zoo’s seven elephants, zoo staff, and guests. The elephants now enjoy upgraded sand, new shade sail and rock-work, including two waterfalls and a 160,000-gallon pool.

Zoo guests can take advantage of the upgraded promenade and pedestrian sidewalks around the exhibit, which provide ADA accessibility and enhanced viewing opportunities of the elephants throughout the enclosure. Along the pedestrian pathways are added timber shade structures, overlooks, tram stops, along with bench and dining areas. A new sound system allows guests to hear the keeper chats from multiple viewing areas. Upgraded gender neutral bathrooms, a mother’s room, and an adult changing room were also added.
