The Minnehaha County Juvenile Justice Center developed in two phases to modernize services and improve outcomes for youth. Phase 1 was completed in late 2025 and includes new housing pods, classrooms, a gym, and a secure intake area. Phase 2 began shortly after with the demolition of the original facility and will add juvenile courtrooms and probation offices, with full completion expected in early 2027. The facility currently offers 48 beds with future expansion capacity and features a trauma-informed design that emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and efficiency by consolidating all juvenile justice services into one centralized location.
