Minnesota Children’s Museum Renovation

Project Highlights

Consistently rated as one of the top children’s museums in the country, the re-imagined museum helps children develop essential skills they need to succeed. New exhibits cultivate skills such as critical thinking, communication, coordination and creative thinking. The project features 40% expansion of gallery space, a new multi-story climbing structure, new café, creative office space, and transformed public atrium. The project includes comprehensive remodeling of 67,000 square feet of space, phased over 16 months to allow the museum to remain open throughout construction. Complex funding was provided by a multitude of sources including donors, state bonding, new market tax credits and operating funds. This exciting expansion has allowed the museum to successfully accommodate their growing attendance of approximately 500,000 visitors per year and fulfill their mission of “sparking learning through play”.
