JE Dunn Construction has officially acquired Henry Carlson Construction, bringing together two companies with storied legacies and two combined centuries of construction expertise. The transaction closed July 31, 2026, following close collaboration between both companies. With the acquisition complete, JE Dunn and Henry Carlson are moving forward together with a shared focus on people, clients, and local relationships.
Founded in 1919, Henry Carlson Construction has spent more than a century earning trust across South Dakota through strong client service, local partnerships, and a reputation for doing work the right way.
At its core, this acquisition is about building on what Henry Carlson has already established: trusted relationships, strong teams, and a deep commitment to South Dakota.
JE Dunn expects the investment will expand upon the resources, capabilities, and opportunities already available to employees, clients, and partners.
JE Dunn’s focus in this transition is on supporting Henry Carlson employees and creating stability as the teams begin this next chapter together. Henry Carlson employees will remain based at the company’s Sioux Falls, South Dakota, headquarters and its additional office in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Henry Carlson’s current projects, commitments, and day-to-day project delivery will continue, with no disruption expected to ongoing work. Project teams will continue serving clients with the local relationships they know, now supported by JE Dunn’s national scale, resources, and expertise.
The acquisition represents a long-term strategic investment in South Dakota, a growing market where Henry Carlson has built deep roots and where JE Dunn sees significant opportunity to deliver lasting value. JE Dunn is excited to expand upon Henry Carlson’s strong legacy while creating new possibilities for employees, clients, partners, and communities across the region.
