The JE Dunn and HWA national healthcare design-build team designed and constructed a 55,615-sqaurefoot, two-story dental clinic on Lackland AFB. The new two story Dental Clinic consolidated orthodontics from the Dunn Dental Clinic. The project consisted of hazardous abatement and demolition of (four) existing structures, site utilities, and grading on a 10-acre site. The existing dental clinic was demolished. Almost twice the size of the current facility, the new clinic has 55,615 square feet of space, an open plan with extensive daylighting and a greater number of dental treatment rooms.
The clinic is LEED Silver certified with key features including landscaped areas, minimal nighttime light pollution, high efficiency plumbing with 40 percent less water and no ozone depleting material. The project recycled or salvaged over 50 percent of construction waste and reduces water for landscaping by more than 50 percent.
The initial outfitting team performed IO-T and IO-C services for the project. This included all planning, user meetings and submittals for IO-T, ground breaking and ribbon cutting events and the procurement, warehousing, installation, training, transitioning and certifications of all furniture and equipment for IO-C. This project consisted of outfitting the entire building, including 69 specialty dental treatment rooms and a full service dental laboratory.
