JE Dunn and Hoefer Wysocki Architecture Design Build IO Team is working with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Medical Service, and Keesler Medical Group to renovate and upgrade the majority of the interior clinical areas of the Keesler Medical Building for the 81st Medical Group. A major part of the project is a new hybrid operating room (OR) inside surgery that can accommodate all types of surgery including the latest technology in minimally invasive surgery and cardiology procedures. In addition, two new additional state-of-the-art operation oooms will be added and will match the other new OR’s that were recently added post Hurricane Katrina. There will also be a dedicated department adjacent to the operating theater for special procedures such as bronchoscopies, colonoscopies and endoscopies.
Another major aspect of the new design will be to also incorporate the entire dental clinic within the walls of the hospital and to create a complete state-of-the-art dental service within the confines of the medical building. The design will include layouts for improved aesthetics in departments and hallways, and provide more open waiting areas serving multiple departments. The goal is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere similar to the aesthetics in the private sector.
