JE Dunn completed the University Center Tower Vertical Expansion project. The project included the core and shell construction of a 43,230 SF expansion atop an existing parking structure. The expansion is a two-story building that starts on level six of the parking garage with the new building tying into the existing main tower and can be accessed through level six and seven. To meet the structural requirements to allow for a new structure on top of the existing garage, horizontal and vertical concrete beams were added to the existing parking garage, while keeping the garage functional for the building occupants.
The Tower expansion includes interior construction of 39,259 SF of classroom and office space for the School of Biomedical Informatics. This scope of work features architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and audio-visual scopes of work.
All the work on this project was done while the parking garage and adjacent existing tower are in use and fully occupied.
