In 2000, JE Dunn completed the first phase of a multi-phase project for Terwilliger Plaza. The first phase included demolition of an existing three-story concrete building and two-story parking garage. A new building was constructed housing 44 assisted living units on four floors above the parking area. A new kitchen, dining facilities, and a lobby/reception area were also included.
Phase two was completed in 2008. Known as The Heights, this 10-story building consists of 48 units and parking. An exercise pool, therapy pool, fitness room, bistro, and lounge are also included.
The Heights is highly energy efficient, using an estimated 20-25 percent less energy than similar buildings. Sustainable features include energy saving elevators, a centralized high-efficiency heating and cooling plant, low voltage lighting, and a heat recovery system for the indoor pools, which captures heat that would otherwise be lost in the ventilation cycle.
