Sprint completed its new world headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas in 2002. The Sprint Campus consists of 17 office buildings, a fitness building, and central plant and central services buildings. Additionally, the campus features a 175-foot clock tower, covered walkways, an outdoor amphitheater for 3,000 people, more than 4 million SF of precast concrete parking garages for 14,000 cars, athletic fields, and hiking and biking trails that connect to public trails outside the campus. The Sprint Campus project was a “partnered” project in the sense that JE Dunn Construction partnered with a project team comprised of individuals representing the owner, architect, subcontractors, consultants, and other key individuals. Communication was key in maintaining schedules and budgets while striving for the level of quality demanded on this project. Preconstruction services included scheduling, budget development and constructability analysis. Through preconstruction, a special “bulk procurement” process was developed enabling bulk material purchases to be made at cost savings.
