This project includes 60 new medical/surgery beds, 30 burn and trauma ICU beds, oncology, associated nurse stations and support spaces, lobby reception and admitting, café, gift shop and office space. In response to a challenge from the owner, HCA Healthcare, the multi-disciplinary project team (owner, designer, contractor and trade partners) has been piloting and measuring efforts to simultaneously reduce on-site labor, project duration and cost while maximizing opportunities for prefabrication. The team’s efforts have dramatically impacted project outcomes and helped to shape best practices for future projects.
JE Dunn, the design team, the owner, and key trade partners prefabricated 60% of the building off-site. These efforts not only resulted in a 12% cost and 10% schedule savings, but also maximized quality and mitigated trade shortages in the local market.
