JE Dunn completed a new 85,000 SF, four-story residence hall and dining center for the Kansas City Art Institute. The building houses double occupancy suites for a total of 244 beds, gathering spaces, student gallery, large living room, fitness center, and gaming center, plus the Wylie Dining Center and Nerman Cafe. The building acts as the student union and gathering place for the entire campus. The new building coupled with the dining center and cafe provides a welcoming first impression to new and prospective students and creates an iconic gateway to the campus.
The project was built on a tight site, which required intensive coordination and just-in-time deliveries due to no lay down yard. JE Dunn worked with the school and surrounding neighborhood to limit disruptions including finding alternative parking for construction workers.
