JE Dunn completed a 161,000-square-foot detention center renovation and addition of an existing four-story jail with a 30,000-square-foot, one-story addition, mechanical retrofit and complete skin replacement of the existing building.
The first phase of this project required converting 8,000-square-feet of storage and maintenance space in the basement into court holding, consisting of a group of holding cells, staff changing room, guard station, and administration. The second phase included a temporary vehicular sally port to access court holding in the basement, complete demolition of a 12,000-square-foot single-story structure directly over the basement court holding, complete interior demolition of the 25,000-square-foot first floor, and removal of the entire building skin. Construction of the new 30,000-square-foot addition occurred simultaneously during the third phase with reconstruction of the existing first floor and work on housing floors two through four. The project provides space for intake, processing/booking area, medical processing, classification, bonding and outflow support spaces on the non-secured side including administration, interview rooms, locker and marshalling areas, full kitchen, receiving/processing dock spaces and a central plant.
