JE Dunn completed construction of a new world headquarters and underground parking structure for H&R Block. Located in the heart of the Power & Light District, the H&R Block building complements nearby buildings. Designed as an elliptical glass structure, this unique office building serves as a beacon to the revitalizing downtown area. The project consists of three components: 572, 758 SF18 story cast in place, post tension concrete office tower, a 3 story low rise building, and the parking structure. The least visible component, yet equally impressive, is the 5-level underground garage. Designed in an “L-shaped” design, this parking garage provides space for 1,050 cars within its 361,790 SF. The underground structure is constructed of a combination of precast (1,138 pieces) and poured-in-place concrete. In order to provide stability, the cribbing and lagging retention systems were 70’ deep. The City of Kansas City, MO required goals of 15% MBE and WBE participation. JE Dunn delivered as promised.
