This new facility brought numerous new resources to the growing Western State Colorado University. The Mountaineer Field House offers 118,700 square feet of space dedicated to giving students more indoor recreational opportunities, and provides a full field house experience for the university's athletic department. One of the major features is an eight-lane, 200-meter indoor track. Currently, this track sits at the highest elevation of any collegiate competition track in the world. In addition to the track, the building sports three interior multipurpose courts, a foam pit with trampoline, and practice areas for various field events. The recreation center includes a fitness room, three activity rooms, coaching rooms, and new offices for track & field and football. The locker rooms received a 7,300-square-foot renovation as well. Lastly, a competition climbing and bouldering wall caters to the those who enjoy a little practice before braving the neighboring Rocky Mountains. Designed by students at the university, it provides 3,114 climable square feet, and stands at a height of 43.5 feet.
