JE Dunn successfully completed the Building 465 Renovation at Fort Leavenworth. Located within the walls of the Historic US Disciplinary Barracks, this project involved the historic retrofit of the former inmate hospital, an 80 year old facility. The building was chosen to be re-purposed to provide 14 educational spaces compatible with the Classroom XXI standard. This project also involved structural upgrades required to bring the facility up to both Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) and progressive collapse requirements.
A key objective was to maintain the historically relevant materials while still bringing all aspects of the facility up to modern structural and technological standards. As the main function of this renovation was to provide ancillary classroom space for the installation, great care was taken to ensure all aspects of the classroom layout were coordinated with all follow-on work including AV/IT insertion, and FF&E. The project schedule was also altered so this supplementary work could be completed in conjunction with the building renovation, and allow for an expedited start date for classes within the facility. In addition, the project is LEED Gold certified.
