University of Minnesota Inflatable Dome

JE Dunn completed a 92,000-square-foot seasonal inflatable structure and the 2,200-square-foot masonry support building, including synthetic turn and natural turf sports fields.

The dome has 7,400 yards of outer membrane fabric. It is a combination of 28 and 32-ounce per square yard PVC coated polyester. The inner is 7,500 meters of 16-ounce per square yard. The dome weight is 38,000 to 40,000 lbs. There is approximately 4,625,000 cubic feet of air inside the dome and it takes approximately 1.5 hours to inflate. The internal pressure of the dome operates at ranges between five pounds per square foot to 7.5 PSF. The inner height is 75 feet. The dome is kept up by constant blowing air that pressurizes it to 35 PSF. Over 50,000 CY of dirt was moved on the site. The field outside the dome is made of synthetic fibers called FieldTurf Revolution with 9,082 tons of rock underneath the turf field. It has permanant lines to accommodate flag football, soccer, lacross, and softball.
