Dunn Project Solutions completed extensive renovation and restoration work on the historic O.H. Dean Building at 37th and Main Street in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. The renovation of this 14,000-square-foot, two-story structure is the headquarters and retail store front of the Reeves-Wiedeman Company, a plumbing supply wholesaler. Additional shell retail storefront space was also included in the project. The concept behind the renovation was to celebrate the company’s trade with a variety of copper-clad surfaces, from the entry vestibule and elevator shaft, to the exterior balcony and transaction counter top. Wanting to remain involved in the daily rhythm of the retail space, the company executives work above the showroom and remain connected to clients through a copper wrapped, skylighted atrium in the center of the building. This atrium connects the grade-level service floor to offices above and provides natural daylight to the retail space. The glazed terra-cotta west facade was restored to include the original building medallion, which was re-cast by local artisans to match historic specifications.
