Founded in the late 1800's, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church is located in Freedmen's Town, a post-Civil War neighborhood. The church suffered a devastating fire in 2005, leaving just the interior concrete floor and four walls without a roof to connect them. JE Dunn completed a 6,100-square-foot historical park renovation.
The project included historical stabilization and renovation of existing church walls. Structural steel framing and ornamental metal window framing were added to re-create the look of the church. The renovation features an open access garden with pew-like benches, a fountain, and chapel. The project celebrates history and provides park space in an urban neighborhood.
