Bishop Spencer Place is an urban mid-size continuing care retirement project located on nine acres in mid-town Kansas City. The original project opened in 1995 with 60 apartments, 30 assisted living suites and a 60 skilled nursing center. This original building was wood frame construction. Over the years, the size and scope of the project required adjustment. JE Dunn worked as partners with the Bishop Spencer Board of Directors and management staff over a 10 year period to determine the best plan for the future of the community. A four story, 147,634 SF luxury apartment building and 3-story, 112,814 SF community center opened in 2005. These apartments were three times the size of the original apartments and were built over an underground garage. This building was forced concrete.
